Hafiz Saeed's release will lead to unrest, Punjab govt tells Lahore High Court

The Lahore High Court was told on Tuesday that releasing Jamaat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed from house arrest could lead to a situation of unrest, reported Pakistani daily Dawn News.In a written reply, Pakistan's Punjab Home Ministry informed the court that Saeed was put under house arrest under anti-terrorism laws. The Lahore High Court was hearing an appeal for Saeed’s release.The Punjab provincial government on January 30 had put him under house arrest in Lahore under the Second Schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. The federal interior ministry had stated that "Saeed and his four aides have been detained for spreading terrorism in the name of Jihad".The Pakistan government had reportedly taken action against Saeed after the US firmly told Islamabad that in case of not taking action against JuD and Saeed it may face sanctions.
